‘Hemp Seed Oil’
Hemp seed oil is a healthy food (or cosmetic) oil produced by cold-pressing hemp seeds only. The oil extracted is a seed oil containing healthy fats, and is a healthier alternative to olive oil. Hemp seed oil does NOT contain any CBD or THC.
‘Hemp Oil’
Often a misleading term – Hemp oil is NOT CBD oil and is most often hemp seed oil, as above, but it can mislead people into thinking it is CBD oil (and is often marketed at an inflated high price). Unless a product specifically states the amount of CBD or other cannabinoids in the product, assume it is hemp seed oil and does not contain any cannabinoids.
‘Cannabinoids’
Cannabinoids are chemical substances that are extracted from the flowers and leaves of cannabis and/or hemp plants. The most common are CBD, THC and CBG. They can have various benefits to human health and well-being. We advise doing research before purchasing any products claiming to contain cannabinoids.
‘CBD Oil’
CBD products come in many different concentrations and with different carrier oils (various oils which the CBD may be diluted in). CBD is expensive to produce properly and has many therapeutic benefits which are relatively well known. HOWEVER, the amount of CBD is important – very little benefit may be realised from small amounts of CBD. We recommend doing research. It is better to spend more on a higher quality and higher concentration CBD oil (high mg) than rely on cheaper oils with very little CBD.
‘THC’
THC is the most recognised and mis-understood cannabinoid of the Cannabis plant family. Hemp plants by definition do NOT contain any useful amount of THC. THC is what gives Cannabis users a ‘high’. It also has many recognised health benefits and is recognised as a medicinal cannabinoid. No hemp products will contain THC in quantities which will make the consumer feel ‘high’.
‘Hemp hearts’
Simply healthy hemp seeds with the hard shell removed. – AKA – “Hulled Hemp”, “Shelled Hemp” or “Dehulled Hemp”
‘Hemp flour’
Made by milling the by-product of pressing seeds for hemp seed oil. Pressing the oil out leaves a flaky cake-like substance which is high protein and can be milled into the flour product.
